Trading Standards Test Purchasing

Trading Standards needs young people to assist with test purchasing.

Trading Standards are looking to recruit young people to participate in our tobacco test purchasing project. We need non-smoking participants to visit retailers with our officers and attempt to buy tobacco.

The project will be undertaken during the summer holidays, specifically 17th July to 24th July (excluding the weekend) and the young people need to be aged between 16 ½ and 17 ½ years old.

This is an extremely important role and the young person may be required to give evidence which Trading Standards may have to use in legal proceedings against the retailer. Consideration should be given to whether the young person is happy to give evidence etc.

As with previous years, we will not be able to make use of all those who volunteer and we will only be able to contact those we may take on test purchasing.

Payment of £5 per hour will be paid directly to the young person.

If you think your young person will be interested, please discuss this with them initially and then send a note of interest to tradingstandards@westlothian.gov.uk by close business on Thursday 28th June , including the young person's date of birth and the area of West Lothian they reside in.
