Information Governance

Information is central to Council business processes, decision making and service delivery. It provides evidence and ensures accountability for Council decision making, actions and performance. It is crucial that information is managed effectively to mitigate any risks whilst maximising its value. This page contains links to policies procedures and guidance for the management and handling of information and information requests.

The council has a new pdf icon Information Governance Policy [345kb] that standardises accountability and responsibilities and brings harmony to the council's approach to information governance.  New and updated procedures and guidance have been developed to facilitate compliance and encourage the adoption of best practice standards.  The new Policy replaces the following council policies:

  • Information Security Policy;
  • Data Protection Policy;
  • CCTV Policy;
  • Records Management Policy;
  • Archives Acquisition Policy.

There are new intranet pages and guidance for each of the elements of Information Governance:

  • Data Protection
  • Freedom of Information
  • Environmental Information
  • Records Management
  • Information Security

Information Liaison Officers (ILOs):

The council have in place an Information Management Working Group (IMWG) to direct, develop and guide how information is managed in the council. The working group, chaired by Julie Whitelaw (Head of Corporate Services), meets on an 8 weekly basis and is comprised of a representative from each service called an Information Liaison Officer or ILO.  The group monitors and develops policies to ensure that the council complies with information management requirements relating to Freedom of Information, the rights of individuals to access their personal data and the rules relating to management of environmental information. Your ILO should be your first point of contact for any information queries.  The names of the ILOs for each service are detailed below:
