Introduction to Equality and Diversity

 The Equality Act 2010 came into force 1 October 2010. This session will provide an introduction suitable for all council employees to the new law, as well as provide context for the equality and diversity agenda within the council.

Objectives:

  • Explain what we mean by equality and diversity
  • Outline the purpose and objectives of the Equality Act 2010
  • Provide an introduction to the impact of discrimination
  • Outline what the council is doing to promote equality and diversity
  • Outline what individuals can do to promote equality and diversity

Equality Impact Assessment

Policy Development and Scrutiny Panel (PDSP) papers require to be appropriately equality impact assessed. This session will provide an awareness for council employees and managers required to conduct equality impact assessment.

Objectives:

  • Explain what we mean by equality impact assessment
  • Outline the purpose and objectives of equality impact assessment
  • Outline the equality impact assessment process
  • Provide practical case studies examples of completed assessments
  • Identify useful hints, tips and resources for conducting robust assessments
